Fractional vs. In-House: Annual Cost
A fractional model delivers controller and CFO-level oversight at a fraction of the cost of building an in-house finance team — without the recruiting, benefits, turnover, or supervision burden.
| Role | Annual Cost |
|---|---|
| Full-time in-house CFO | $180K–$350K+/year |
| Full-time controller | $110K–$180K/year |
| Full-time bookkeeper | $55K–$85K/year |
| The Aligned Ledger (Vision tier) | $60K–$96K/year |
In-house salary ranges based on Robert Half and BLS data for the Dallas–Fort Worth market. The Aligned Ledger range reflects $5K–$8K/month Vision-tier engagements.
What Drives Your Monthly Fee
- Monthly transaction volume across bank, credit card, and merchant accounts
- Number of bank accounts, credit cards, and payment processors to reconcile
- Number of legal entities (LLCs, S-corps, holding companies, trusts)
- Industry complexity (inventory, job costing, multi-state, deferred revenue)
- Reporting cadence and depth (basic statements vs. KPI dashboards vs. board packages)
- Advisory frequency (monthly call vs. weekly strategy vs. on-demand CFO access)

Pricing FAQ
How much does bookkeeping cost?
Bookkeeping services start at $750/month for our Clarity tier. Pricing depends on transaction volume, number of bank accounts, and complexity. We provide a custom quote after a free assessment.
How much does a fractional CFO cost?
Our fractional CFO services (Vision tier) range from $5,000–$8,000+/month. This is typically 30–50% the cost of a full-time CFO, which averages $180K–$350K+ per year including benefits.
Are there long-term contracts?
No. All engagements are month-to-month after the initial onboarding period. We earn your business every month through results.
What's included in the free assessment?
During the Financial Alignment Call, we review your current financial state, discuss your challenges and goals, and recommend the right tier and scope. No obligation, no pressure.
Do fees cover tax preparation?
No. We handle bookkeeping, financial reporting, and advisory — not tax preparation or filing. We coordinate with your CPA to ensure a seamless handoff at tax time.
How much does multi-entity bookkeeping cost?
Most additional entities run $500–$1,500/month on top of your primary tier, depending on transaction volume and whether consolidated reporting is required. Families with 4+ entities typically move to a custom family office scope.
How much does catch-up or cleanup bookkeeping cost?
One-time catch-up projects range from $1,500 to $5,000+, priced by the number of months behind, account complexity, and document availability. We quote a fixed fee after a free assessment.
Do you serve businesses outside Dallas–Fort Worth?
Our advisory model is fully remote, and we serve clients across Texas and the United States. Local in-person meetings are available throughout DFW, including Dallas, Plano, Frisco, McKinney, Allen, Southlake, Colleyville, and Fort Worth.
What software do you use?
We standardize on QuickBooks Online with supporting tools like Ramp, Bill.com, Gusto (for payroll review only), and Fathom or Reach Reporting for KPI dashboards. We do not run payroll or pay bills on your behalf.
Can I upgrade or downgrade tiers later?
Yes. Most clients start in Clarity or Momentum and graduate to Vision as revenue grows. Tier changes take effect the following month.
